I stood in the kitchen with the refrigerator and stove pulled out, painting feverishly while the kids were happy. Nick's hair and right shoulder bore the evidence. Kait stood first on one foot then the other. Finally with a long sigh she said, "Mom, I think... eventually... you're going to need a taller ladder." Later, as I pushed on, swiping on the second coat in record time, she sat on the counter taking whatever painting apparatus I wasn't using and coating it liberally with paint. After watching me cycle through the different tools a few times, she said "okay, well when you need the dealtail thing, I have it all ready." I looked over and said "detail?" Her reply was so Kait. "Yeah, but I just call it dealtail."
A couple of days later she said "Mom, why did Tony close his shop?" I said, "well, he just wasn't making enough money." "So his boss told him he had to close it?" "Well, no, he made the decision, he was the boss." "(Gasp)Tony was a boss???? Wow, I wish I could be a boss... what do bosses do? Just tell people what to do and stuff? I wonder how you get to be a boss." All I could think to myself was "Yeah, a kid like you would daydream about being the boss." I just laughed and enjoyed it.
